Also known as Tokyo Rose, Akane is a cross between a Jonathan and a Worcester Pearmain. A small-to-medium-sized apple with an attractive bright cherry red fruit color, the juicy white flesh and sprightly flavor resemble Jonathan, but with an even more complex flavor.

A variety developed from a chance seedling in New Zealand introduced in 1952, Braeburn has a tangy flavor that straddles sweet and tart. Skin color varies from orange to red over a yellow background. Braeburn may have Lady Hamilton & Granny Smith in its parentage. It is available starting in late-October.

A chance seedling from the Peshastin, WA, orchard of Darrel Caudle in the 1980’s the Cameo is thought to have Red Delicious in its parentage. The skin has bright red stripes covering a yellow-green under color. The apple tastes as good as it looks, with crunchy sweet-tart flavor. Cameo, which is ready in late-September, is versatile and can be eaten fresh, used in pies or in applesauce.

Introduced to the U.S. from Japan in the 1980s. Fruits are big, super-sweet and crisp. Holds its texture when baked and is a Red Delicious and Ralls Janet cross.

The popular Honeycrisp apple is mildly aromatic with a juicy flavor and crisp flesh. Its skin is two-thirds mottled red with a straw background. The Honeycrisp, which is available in September, is a cross between the Macoun and Honeygold and developed at the University of Minnesota.

A leading U.S. commercial variety introduced in 1914, Golden Delicious has a sweet flavor and juicy white flesh. Mellow and sweet, Goldens are great for eating out of hand, baking and salads. The Golden Delicious flesh stays white longer than other apples. It hits fruit stands in October.

The Jonagold is a juicy, orange-tinted apple that has a tangy-sweet flavor. While it’s excellent to eat fresh, the Jonagold is also great in cooking and makes a great pie. The Jonagold is a cross between Golden Delicious and Jonathan that was introduced in 1968. The Jonagold is ready in late September to early October.

An early-season apple with red and yellow streaks over greenish yellow skin, Gravensteins are medium to large with an aromatic and slightly acidic flavor. Flesh is crisper and juicier than Lodi. Even though the Gravenstein is popular in pies or sauces, it is crisp enough to be eaten fresh. It becomes available in early August.

An early season favorite with a thick spring green skin, Lodi retains the quality and flavor of Yellow Transparent but produces larger fruits. Available in late July, the Lodi is typically used in pies and sauces

Originating in Idaho, the Ida Red was developed in 1942 by crossing a Jonathon and Wagener apples. With a juicy, tangy flavor, the Ida Red makes an excellent pie apple that is available around October. The fruit is large and round with a thick cherry-red skin with a tender white flesh.

A parent of the Honeycrisp, the Macoun has a tart-sweet flavor with a crisp texture. Macoun is also very juicy, lending itself well to fresh eating. Macoun is also a good baking apple.

Orin is a Japanese apple that is a cross between Indo and Golden Delicious. Its flavor is very fruity with a tropical aroma and a hint of pineapple. Orin lacks acids but has depth and complexity. It is available starting in October.

Typically light green, the Newtown Pippen sometimes has a yellow tinge often with russeting around the stem. Its flesh is yellow and crisp while its flavor is complex and somewhat tart and requires storage to develop properly.

Red Cortland apples, which originated in Malboro, New York, developed from a chance mutation of the Cortland apple. They are a crisp, sweet apple that are good for eating. They are available in late-September to early-October.

An apple with solid red-colored skin, the Ruby Jon has a creamy white flesh that can be tinged with red. Ruby Jon offers the same crisp, juicy eating quality of the old-fashioned Jonathan, with 100 percent of the Jonathan’s flavor and size. It has a smooth finish and it is available starting in mid-September. The Ruby Jon is not a good keeper, but makes excellent apple sauce.

Early season sweet-tart apple bearing brilliant pinkish-red blush over a golden ground color. Sansas are excellent in quality, medium in size, and are firm and juicy. Sansa is a cross between Gala and Akane and it is available in August. It is similar to Gala in flavor, sweet, but with perhaps more acid notes.

SnowSweet was developed at the University of Minnesota by the same folks that brought us the popular Honeycrisp. The SnowSweet is a sweet apple with a slight tart edge with rich overtones. Its snowy white flesh oxidizes slowly so it won’t turn brown as quickly as other varieties.

A stripy bright red apple with yellow-orange background, the Sonata is slightly cone shaped with a rounded bottom. Its texture is very firm with a juicy sweetness and a tropical twist.

The Spartan apple is a cross between McIntosh and Newtown Pippin. It is very much a "McIntosh" style apple with a bright crimson skin and a whiter-than-white flesh. Straight from the tree the flesh is very crisp and juicy, but it softens a bit within a week or so of picking although it remains juicy. Spartan is a small, sweet apple that was in a British Columbia research station during the 1920s.

Discovered near Aberdeen, Washington, the Wynooche is a unique, early large creamy yellow apple with red stripes. Unusual among early varieties for its delicious full-bodied flavor, Wynooche ripens in early August and can be stored until Christmas.

Black Caps (black raspberries) are smaller than red raspberries with smaller individual kernels and less juice. Their flavor is totally unique! Our Black Caps are available at our farm stand in Royal City.

Tayberries taste like a combination of red raspberries and blackberries, with a flavor similar to the small Western wild blackberries. The berries are larger than a raspberry with a solid center, like a blackberry, and deep purple flesh.

We grow the ____ variety of Gooseberry, which is green with a slight pink blush. They are shaped similarly to a green table grape with a seedy flesh and small spines on the fruit (and plant!). Gooseberries make wonderful jam and a fun treat to eat fresh (if you like tart).

One of the first vegetables harvest each spring, asparagus reminds us that summer's bounty is coming! We have green asparagus, which often has a purple-tint when fresh picked. We try to pick our asparagus at about 6" tall so it is always tender.

Our green rhubarb (we promise it's not celery!) came from Grandma Pearl's private rhubarb row, planted soon after the Tonnemakers acquired Tonnemaker Hill Farm in 1962. We think the green stalks have more rhubarb flavor and are more tender than their red counterparts.

Bing is the most popular sweet cherry currently grown. Bing bears a red/mahogany fruit that is plump and bursting with flavor. Its juice is sweet and dark red. The standard for sweet cherry growers in the early market, Bing is firm with smooth flesh. The stone is relatively small, while the fruit itself is crisp, firm and juicy. Consumers enjoy its sweet, rich flavor, which is the reason that it's the dominant variety.

An early-season cherry, the Chelan has a mahogany-red skin with a medium-to-dark red flesh similar to the venerable Bing cherry. Fruit is firm and flavorful

A popular new variety from British Columbia, Lapin is a late-season cherry. The fruit are reported to be large, firm with a mahogany-red skin with a lighter-red flesh. This is one of the best tasting varieties from the Summerland breeding program.

Montmorency is the standard pie cherry for commercial and home planting. It bears early and is very productive with medium-large bright red fruit, good quality and flavor. The trees need very little disease control if kept open to sun. Montmorency ripens in mid- to late-July.

The Rainier’s skin color is golden yellow with a considerable amount of red blush. Its flesh color is clear and tastes sweet. The fruit is very large, very firm and has a distinctly different flavor.

Duarte is a heart-shaped, deep red fruit with a sweet blood-red flesh that is excellent for fresh eating or canning

At harvest, the Fortune plum has a light-yellow-colored flesh that has some red pigment near the apex. As it ripens after being picked, the Fortune’s skin darkens and the red pigment increases throughout the flesh. It may have a soft, dark red flesh when fully ripe. It was developed in California in the 1960s and appeared at markets in the 1980s.

Hiromi Red is a large, sweet juicy plum that was first harvested in 2012. Hiromi Red has red skin and yellow, cling-stone flesh that is firm when ripe. This variety was released in 1997 and hails out of Modesto, California. The parents of this plum include Nubiana Plum and Queen Rosa plum.
